PORTA-net uses OLSR protocol (Optimised Link State Routing) to create a single unified wifi network. The vast majority of wireless networks comprise of lots of WiFi antennas (nodes). Each antenna offers wifi access within its range. . Move out of range and you'll have to connect to the next one, and then the next one and so on. Going between the ranges, one loses connection. PORTA-net links each node in constant communication with every other node it can see in the network. Each node has an awareness of its neighbours and what they all can see - they continually exchange network information.

PORTA2030's 10 porta-pack is each assigned a fixed IP address (i.e. 192.168.22.101). When porta-porters move around in the PORTA-net wifi zone, the network shifts its routing to take in stronger signal for connectivity. The inter-communication of portersê signal sending and urgent calling relies on such a dynamic and adaptive PORTA-net.
