4/24/2006-5/1/2006

PORTA2030 locates Broadway market (E8, London), a racially mixed urban street currently part of Hackney Council's regeneration plan, as the site for its premiere public performative exercise. Broadway Market known as market porter's path was the route that transports produce from Hackney fields to city markets. PORTA2030, while pushing forward the network connectivity, further documents Broadway Market's transition with its residents and market traders. During Node London media season in March 2006, PORTA2030 held 3 public work sessions. Hosted by Gossip and Fabrications at Broadway Market, the discussions focused on porta-porters' modes of communication, scripting urgency scenario and setting up community wifi network.

Updating Broadway Market's public wifi zone, PORTA2030 is provided by 8Mbps broadband and a 500m radius omni antenna set up at Fabrications (7, Broadway Market). Additional antennas set up on the rooftops of #46 and #77 further expand the wifi clouds to London Field. Working with the public wifi network vision, PORTA2030 wifi-net remains and upkept at Broadway Market.
